District XI Bulletin Board:

AMA NEWS:

NOTE: From Bruce Nelson: This is an e-mail from Bob Underwood. There was a misreporting in MA and hopefully this will explain the mistake to our members.
Dear All,
Just a quick note to inform you about a statement which is at the least misleading, or at the most, incorrect. At the bottom of page 9 in the November Issue of Model Aviation there is an overview of changes for the 2006 Safety Code. In the center column, item six states, "requires outdoor fliers to maintain 25 feet between themselves and other pilots and their helpers." That is not true! Item 6 in the Safety Code addresses the distance between the AIRCRAFT and individuals. The actual Code item states:
"6. With the exception of events flown under official AMA Competition Regulations rules, excluding takeoff and landing, no powered model may be flown outdoors closer than 25 feet to any individual, except for the pilot and the pilot's helper(s) located at the flight line."
Currently, there is a notice on the front page of the web site clarifying the magazine statement. It is important that you understand that the magazine did not create this problem! Rather, when I submitted the text for that item, Don Koranda felt we would be better served by shortening my submission, which had included the actual text for all the changes. There was a very short turn around time due to the magazine deadline and Don rewrote my text. He did send me a draft and I failed to note the problem with the text! Shame on me!
I have forwarded this to all of you since I have received two messages from puzzled members. As stated, the item conflicts with Membership Manual information in the frequency section. A second query indicated that as stated, the item conflicts with the purpose of the present Safety Code item 6! It's entirely possible there may be additional questions concerning this matter. I am attempting to arm you, the soldiers on the front lines!
If you have any questions, please feel free to fire them my way!
Cheers!
Bob Underwood

UPCOMING EVENTS:

February 5th, 2006, February 24-26: The Evergreen Museum and TEAM (The Evergreen Aero Modelers). We are having two events, coming up soon February the 5th annual static model aviation show at the Museum. Feb. 24-26: 9:00am- 5:00pm. Then on the same dates in March, 24, 25, 26 we are having a swap meet, with American Junior Classics and The Minature Aviation Showcase as sponsored. You will remember Frank Macy and the American Junior series of airplanes. Noel Martin has the Miniature Aviation Showcase, the most incredible collection of model aircraft and memoriabelia I have ever seen. We have 2000 sq.feet of area, with some tables for the event. set up and beginning 4pm till 9pm on Friday the 24th, with a time of socialization, and light "goodies."

Then the 25th, 9:00 till 9:00. Sunday the 26th, 9:00 till 2:00pm. Do you have a list of the newsletter editors in District XI for our use, or can you help us get in touch with them. This is a first time for this event, so this too is a little behind, Noel had esophagael cancer surgery in Dec., so things got a little behind, and I have had to step in and help. Hope all is well with you. Take care, and we hope you can help.

March 25th: "A Day in the Hangar" BEAMS (Boeing Employees' Aerodynamic Modeling Society) is pleased to announce our next big model airplane event, the 12th Annual "A Day in the Hangar" to be held inside the Boeing Factory in Everett, Washington, Saturday, March 25th, between 7:00a.m. and 6:00p.m.
This year's event may be the last time we will be able to fly indoor models in such a huge open space (15 million cubic feet), before the new Boeing 787 line is geared up for production.
We are limiting youth and adult participation levels to the first 400 who register. Please share this information with others.
So, we invite you to be part of this historic opportunity to safely witness the joy of aerodynamics, inside the largest airplane hangar in the world.
